We are pleased to announce the successful completion of the York University Markham Campus project. This state-of-the-art 10-storey campus, located in the transit-integrated Markham Centre, was chosen by York University in 2015, with the support of the Ontario Government and York Region, due to the city’s established capabilities in meeting the university’s critical requirements for this ambitious project. The project, awarded to Onyx in May 2021, the scope included:
- Comprehensive design, supply, and installation of fire protection systems, ensuring the safety and compliance of the new campus facilities.
- Fire Pump: 500 GPM @ 95 psi
- Sprinklers: 3,500 units
- Fire Hose Cabinets: 56 units
- Sprinkler Valves: 15 units
Throughout this journey, our team encountered numerous challenges, including complex design requirements and logistical obstacles. Despite these difficulties, our team exhibited remarkable resilience and determination, overcoming each challenge to achieve final occupancy for the project.
Our dedicated team, led by Project Manager Hasheeb Habeeb, Construction Manager Dave Landry, and Construction Superintendent Chris Pierog, worked tirelessly to ensure the project’s success. Their efforts, along with the hard work of Site Coordinator Edward Hoy, Site Foreman Tyrone Bilinski, and our diligent site crews—Dylan Bilinski, Jeff Dykeman, and Fabio Rodriguez—were crucial in bringing this project to fruition. We also acknowledge the invaluable design support from Juan Cardenas.
The completion of the York University Markham Campus represents a significant milestone for both the university and the local community. The new campus is set to provide enhanced educational opportunities and stimulate regional growth. Our state-of-the-art fire protection systems will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors.
